The king's grace, of his own consent and with the advice of the lords of his council, has concluded, statute and ordained that, in time to come, no disposition of any ward, marriage, remission or any other thing belonging to our sovereign lord's casualty be conveyed from thenceforth except by the advice of his treasurer, and the signature thereof to be subscribed with his hand in token of his consent thereof; and if any pass otherwise, declares the same, now as then and then as now, of no value, force nor effect.

Also our said sovereign lord has presently assigned and given to Sir Robert Cairncross, provost of Corstorphine, his treasurer, for furnishing of his highness in such matters as he has to do touching the welfare of his grace and his realm, the ward and marriage of [Gilbert Kennedy], earl of Cassilis, the compositions of the tenantries of Angus, which were held by Archibald Douglas, sometime earl of Angus, together with the escheat of Archibald Douglas, sometime of Kilspindie, both lands, goods, tacks and steadings, and ordains the secretary that he answer not with the signet to any signature that shall come to him nor his deputies upon the said ward and marriage, compositions of the tenantries of Angus and escheat of the said Archibald, or any part thereof, without special command and assent of the said treasurer, and that he be content therewith and not otherwise.
