Parliament of the most excellent prince and our lord, the lord James V, by the grace of God most illustrious king of Scots, held and begun at Edinburgh on 2 September 1528 by the lords commissioners written below, namely [George Leslie], earl of Rothes, Robert [Maxwell], lord Maxwell, William [Sempill], lord Sempill, John [Hay], lord Hay of Yester, George [Lindsay], lord St John, William Scott of Balwearie, knight, and Nicholas Crawford of Oxgangs, justice clerk, along with Gilbert Wauchope of Niddrie-[Marischal], deputy of [William Keith], earl Marischal, Patrick Baron [of Spittalfield], deputy of the constable [William Hay, earl of Erroll], Andrew Dalmahoy, sergeant, and John Anderson, dempster. On the which day, the suits were called and the court was fenced.

We do inform you that, forasmuch as Archibald [Douglas], earl of Angus, George Douglas, his brother, Archibald Douglas, his uncle, and Alexander Drummond are summoned to compear in this present parliament in Edinburgh on Friday, 4 September instant, to answer upon certain points of treason, wherefore the king's grace, with the advice of his lords of council, declares that it shall be lawful to the said persons to come in proper person to answer upon the said summons without any accusation to be made to them upon any other crimes than is contained in the said summons of treason, and also they shall have sure passage so that no hurt or harm shall be done to them by any persons otherwise than by the order of law unto the decision of the said summons, notwithstanding any other charges or proclamations made in the contrary.

We do inform you that, forasmuch as the king's grace, with the lords and barons, is to depart out of Edinburgh upon Monday next to come toward Haddington in the east parts of Lothian, the Merse and other places as it shall be seen and thought expedient by his highness for the ordering of matters concerning the common welfare and pacifying of the country, therefore, that all manner of persons, lords, barons, freeholders and others being in this town charged of before to come with his highness to the same, and all others of our sovereign lord's lieges, sensible persons within the bounds of Lothian, the Merse, Haddington, Teviotdale, Selkirk and Tweeddale make themselves ready in their best manner, equipped for fighting in warlike array, with weapons, pavilions† and victuals, to pass and remain with his grace to the effect foresaid for the space of 15 days next after the said day under the pains contained in the letters given thereupon of before.
