In the presence of our sovereign lord and the three estates of the realm compeared in parliament William Adamson, burgess of Edinburgh, and bound and obliged himself under the pain of loss of life, lands and goods that he shall bring the writings lately made by our sovereign lord under his great seal to the town of Middelburg and deliver the same again to the king's grace and lords within 20 days next to come, without longer delay, not transumpted and authentically; and similarly, Alexander Adamson, brother to the said William, has presently bound and obliged himself to the observing of the aforesaid as cautioner for the said William under the same pains and, therefore, ordains William Adamson to take one of the men of Middelburg now being in this town with him for recovering of the said writings and the other to remain in ward until his return and in sure keeping.

Patrick [Hepburn], prior of St Andrews has promised, in name and on behalf of [Patrick Hepburn], earl of Bothwell, that at what time and how soon the Liddesdale men, now remaining in Teviotdale and other places, are put home in Liddesdale, he shall cause the said earl to be bound and other temporal men with him, that whatever rule is put by the three estates of the realm to the said lands and districts adjacent thereto, that the regional men of Liddesdale shall keep the said rule in all points so long as they remain in the same.
