Item, in the first, it is statute and ordained that the privilege and freedom of the Holy Kirk be observed and kept in the time of our sovereign lord that now is as it has been in the times of his most noble progenitors, whom God absolve.

The three estates of this present parliament declare and decide, for many and diverse considerations moving them and for the common good of the realm, that John [Stewart], duke of Albany, sometime tutor to our sovereign lord and governor of his realm, has lost his office of tutory and governance, and shall be excluded and discharged and presently exclude and discharge him forever therefrom; and similarly decree and declare that our sovereign lord shall enjoy, possess and use his own authority and governance of this his realm by himself, and his deputies to be appointed and assigned thereto in all times to come.

Item, it is statute and ordained by our sovereign lord, with the advice of the three estates of his realm in this present parliament, that because slaughter has been so common in bygone times and especially committed upon forethought felony, that for the eschewing thereof in time to come no remissions shall be given for slaughter committed upon forethought felony since our sovereign lord's last coming out of his castle of Stirling, or to be committed for three years next after the date hereof.

Item, it is statute and ordained that forasmuch as sous, tracents and carolus, French money, being alloyed with copper, have passage in this realm, and it is thought expedient that no alloyed money of other countries, except fine silver, have passage in this country but upon a competent price, therefore ordains the carolus, the sous and tracent to be commonly received and given for payment amongst the lieges of our sovereign lord as after follows: that is to say, the sous and the tracent for 5d per piece and the carolus for 4d, and no higher.

Item, it is statute and ordained that, because murder, slaughter, theft, oppression and other enormities are so common, whereby the true lieges of our sovereign lord are slain, harried and destroyed in default of punishment by justice ayres, and for remedy thereof, so that the king's lieges may live in peace and rest in time to come, therefore that justice ayres be held universally throughout the realm and that the justice clerk send his deputies immediately to all shires to take dittay, that thereafter justice may pass and administer justice as is appropriate.

Item, it is statute and ordained that, if it shall happen that any plaintiff within this realm commits crimes of lese-majesty or is to be suspected thereof, in that case it shall be lawful for our sovereign lord to command them to ward and there to remain until the time they either be committed or purged thereof before their judge competent, with the peril or danger of censures or the interdiction of the Holy Kirk.

Item, it is statute and ordained that a justice ayre be proclaimed immediately and to be held in Edinburgh upon all persons who have broken the order of the mine and laboured therein, and upon those who have carried the gold out of the realm contrary to the acts and proclamations made thereupon.

Item, because it is understood by our sovereign lord and the estates of this realm that gold goes out of the same in great quantity because it is refined to a higher price and value in other realms than here, and for remedy thereof, to cause the gold to remain in the country, it is statute and ordained that the gold shall have common course and passage amongst our sovereign lord's lieges and given and taken for payment as after follows: that is to say, the rose-noble of weight 44 grains, the Harry-noble of weight of 40 grains, the angel-noble for 30 grains, all ducats of weight that gave of before 19 grains to have course for 20 grains, the Scottish demi of weight 18 grains, and the Scottish crown of weight 17 grains, and all other money, gold and silver, to have course as of before.
