Item, becaus oure soverane lordis liegis, inhabitantis the burgh of Edinburgh and utheris reparand tharto, ar gretlie oppressit and injurit be the maltmakaris of Leith and utheris within and about the said burgh in selling of thar malt to hie and exhorbitant price for four, five, sex schillingis hiear than thai by the bere, tharefor, it is statute and ordanit that the said malt makaris in tyme cuming sall mak and sell thare malt far competent wynnyng, takand ij s. allanerlie maire for the boll of malt than the boll of bere is sauld and nocht abone, with certificatioune that quham cummys in the contrar herof that the provest and ballies of Edinburgh sall eschete the said malt, and the said maltmakaris takand mare than twa schillingis for the boll abone the boll of bere quhilk sall mak the differrent price salbe callit and punist tharefor as oppressouris of the kingis liegis, and particular justice courtis salbe sett to thame tharefore; and oure soverane lord sall gif commissioune to sik as plesis his grace best to call all the said maltmakaris, brekaris of this statute and acte, befor thame in the tolbuth of Edinburgh to do justice upoune thame as thai think expedient, and to cause the said act and statute to be observit and kepit in all punctis.
