16 January 1488 [1489], the lords auditors sat
In the action and cause pursued by Master William Laurie, archdeacon of Brechin, against John Dempster of Auchterless for the wrongful occupation and manuring of the lands of West Drum without tack or licence from the said archdeacon, as was alleged, both the said parties being present in person, because it was alleged by the said John that he had the said lands from Janet Melville, who claims †the same in tack from the said archdeacon for certain terms in the future, the lords auditors therefore appoint 28 January current, with continuation of days, for the said John to prove sufficiently that he has the said lands †from the said Janet, and that she has tack of the same with power to make subtenants, and [the lords] continue the summons made in the said matter touching the rest of the points contained in it in the meantime, and ordain that necessary letters be given for this, and both parties are summoned according to the act.
