Non-parliamentary record: instrument recording the start date of parliament

An instrument of 2 March 1461 made by George Leslie, earl of Rothes, regarding the temporary loss or theft of his seal, states that it was made 'at the time of parliament ... begun 22 February last'. This instrument provides the only evidence for the correct date of the first day of the parliament.
