Non-parliamentary record: precept to the justiciar north of the Forth

A quarter seal letter of James I dated 16 January in twenty-first year of his reign [1427] to the justiciar north of the Forth records a decreet 'per presidentes parliamenti nostri in nostro concilii sedentes apud Edinburgh quartodecimo die instantis mensis Januarii'. The decreet had ordered the lands of Lochton in the sheriffdom of Fife, disputed by John Barclay of Kippow and Elizabeth de Lochton, to be put to an assise of right in presence of the justiciar at his ayre in the sheriffdom.
