Our sovereign lord and estates of parliament have ratified, approved and confirmed and, by the tenor hereof, ratifiy, approve and confirm the charter and infeftment made and granted by his majesty, as king and as prince and stewart of Scotland, under his majesty's great seal, of the date at Whitehall, 10 August 1669, to his majesty's beloved William, master of Ross, eldest lawful son to George [Ross], lord Ross of Hawkhead and Melville, and the male heirs lawfully to be procreated of his body, which failing to the said George, lord Ross, his male heirs lawfully procreated or to be procreated of his body, which also failing to his eldest daughter lawfully procreated or to be procreated of his body, without division, she always marrying a person of quality of the name of Ross or one who shall assume the name and arms of the family of Ross, and the male heirs lawfully to be procreated of their bodies, which all failing to return to the said George, lord Ross or any other person or persons whatsoever to be designed and nominated by him before his death, of all and whole the lordship and barony of Melville, comprehending the lands and others mentioned in the said charter, lying within the sheriffdom of Edinburgh; the lands of Tartrivan and Waterstone, lying within the sheriffdom of Linlithgow; the lands of Morvensyd, with the mill thereof, lying within the sheriffdom of Stirling, with the whole pertinents, all formerly erected in a free barony called the barony of Melville; and also of the lands of Over Auchenback, Duntarvie, Dubbs, Ralston, Hunterhill, Thornley and Maxwell, with the mill and mill lands thereof; the ten pound land of Logansraes, comprehending the lands called Park and Bog with the pertinents; all and whole the lands of Easter Stanely with the pertinents; the lands of Inch and office of constabulary of the burgh of Renfrew; the lands of Hawkhead, Lays and Thrushcraig; the lands of Overcarse; the lands of Dykebar, Castlebar, Matthewbar, Ruchmanshill, Arthurlie, Auldbar, and Nether Auchenback, lying within the barony and sheriffdom of Renfrew; the lands of Tarbert, Dunlophill, Dowchrasyde, Broomlands and Rossholme, lying in the bailiary of Cunninghame and sheriffdom of Ayr, and more fully mentioned and set down in the said charter, with and under the reservations, provisions and conditions therein expressed, with the dispensation for taking sasine of the lands above-written, held of his majesty as king, at the manor place of Melville or upon the ground of any part of the said lands of Melville, and of the whole lands above-specified held of his majesty as prince and stewart of Scotland, at the manor place of Hawkhead or upon the ground of any part of the same lands, together with the change of the holding of so many of the said lands and others as are held ward from simple to taxed ward, for payment of the tax duties mentioned in the said charter for the ward, non-entry and relief of the said lands and marriage of the heirs succeeding thereto, together with the precept and instrument of sasine following thereon, in all and sundry heads, articles, clauses, tenors and contents thereof, circumstances and conditions therein contained, after the form and tenor of the same; and declare, statute and ordain that this present general ratification thereof is and shall be as valid and sufficient, in all respects, as if the same were at length word for word inserted in this present act of parliament, dispensing with the not inserting thereof herein and with all other exceptions and objections whatsoever that may be proposed or alleged against the validity thereof. And his majesty and estates of parliament foresaid will, grant, decree and declare that the foresaid charter, with the precept and instrument of sasine following thereon, and this present ratification thereof, shall be a good, valid and sufficient right to the said William, master of Ross and his foresaids, which failing as said is, to bruik, possess and enjoy the lands, baronies and others above-written contained therein, after the form and tenor of the same charter, as their own proper heritage, heritably in all time coming.
