The lord commissioner produced a patent under his majesty's great seal, of the date 19 April 1651, creating Sir James MacGill of Cranston MacGill, viscount of Oxenfoord and Lord MacGill, which, being read in open parliament, and the estates acknowledging his majesty's favour to the said viscount, the lord commissioner delivered the said patent to [John Sinclair], lord Sinclair who, in the absence of the said viscount, received the same upon his knees.
