Act concerning [James Crichton], viscount of Frendraught

Forasmuch as James, viscount of Frendraught, being declared fugitive for not appearing before the late committee of estates to answer to the complaint of riot and oppression given in against him by Mr Alexander Gregory, William Hay and David Cruikshank, and the estates of parliament having considered the petition given in by the said viscount showing his willingness to answer and clear himself of the said complaint, but in regard of the roughness of the weather for the time and his own indisposition to travel, he was not able to keep the diets appointed by the committee, therefore, and in regard that the viscount of Frendraught has given bond to appear and answer to the said complaint whenever he shall be lawfully summoned thereto, and that he nor none whom he may stop or let, shall at any time hereafter offer any violence nor wrong to the persons of the said pursuers, their men, tenants nor servants and that he shall not trouble them in their possessions nor goods, nor in the uplifting of the mails and duties of any lands in their possession, and which formerly belonged to the said viscount or his father, otherwise than by order of law, under the pain of £40,000 Scots, the king's majesty, with advice of his estates of parliament, does hereby suspend all execution of the act whereby the said viscount is declared fugitive for his not appearance, as said is, before the committee of estates, and remits the trial of the complaint to the lords of his majesty's privy council.
