Sermon made by Mr James Durham. Rolls called.

The oath of parliament read and taken by all the members of parliament who were present.

The two acts of parliament anent the election of a president of parliament, one in 1641 and the other in 1647 being read, thereafter [Robert Balfour], lord [Balfour of] Burleigh was, after voicing, elected and chosen president for this session of parliament.

[Archibald Campbell], lord marquis of Argyll, for himself and in name of the other commissioners for the treasury, asked instruments upon the production of the honours, namely: the crown, sceptre and sword, for his and their exoneration, and thereupon asked instruments. Likewise thereafter the honours were by his majesty's and the parliament's order delivered to Sir William Keith of Ludquharn, in name of [William Keith], earl Marischal, to be kept during this session of parliament.

[Submission of business from the committee for the affairs of the army; remit to the king concerning deserters from the army]

Ordain the committee for the affairs of the army to give in such particulars as they have to represent to the king and parliament concerning the army tomorrow.

Remit to the king's majesty to call the general officers that course may be taken anent runaways who are taken on of new in the army.

[Act and letter approved; associated business remitted to the committee for monies; amounts of money to be voluntarily supplied]

Act anent the voluntary loan of money, with a letter to the several committees of war and presbyteries relating thereto, read and approved in parliament, and remit the way for dispatch of the act and letters to the several presbyteries and committee of war to the committee for monies; and nominate Mr John Drummond collector, and remit to the said committee what consideration shall be given to the collector; and appoint [Robert Arbuthnott], viscount of Arbuthnott, Sir James Murray and Andrew Glen to go through the members of parliament and committees that are in town, that every man may subscribe what they are to lend, and ordain [Alexander Lindsay], lord Balcarres, [Sir Adam Hepburn], laird of Humbie and Sir Robert Farquhar [of Mounie] to go through the officers of the army for that effect.
