[Act for a gratuity to be paid to Mr David and Mr John Hay, clerks of parliament]

Act in favour of Mr David and Mr John Hay

At Perth, 31 March 1651. Our sovereign lord and estates of parliament, now presently convened in this seventh session of this second triennial parliament, taking into their consideration the great pains and travails taken by Mr David and Mr John Hay, clerks of parliament, these two last sessions of parliament in absence of the rest of the clerks, therefore and specially in respect of a motion made by our said sovereign lord in plain parliament for modifying a sum of money to be paid to the said two clerks for their said pains and travails, they do modify and appoint the sum of 1,000 merks Scots to be given to every one of them for their said pains and travails in attending and serving the king and parliament these two last sessions of parliament, and do remit and earnestly recommend to the committee of estates or committee of monies to find out some effectual course for payment of the said sum of 1,000 merks to each one of the said two clerks, with full power to the said committee to do therein as they shall think fit for their sure payment and speedy satisfaction.
