On the twenty fourth day of parliament

[Lord Burleigh elected vice president; supplication remitted to the committee for prisoners, processes, fines and forfeitures; order to the treasurer depute]

Prayers heard and rolls called.

[John Campbell, earl of Loudoun], lord chancellor, president of parliament, excused this day. Thereafter [Robert Balfour], lord [Balfour of] Burleigh elected vice president in his absence until his return.

Supplication given in by Mr James Hamilton, with certain others of the commissioners of the general assembly, in name of the trades and commons, read and remitted to the committee of fines to take trial of the bygone abuses, and with power to fine the persons guilty and to set down overtures for restraining in time coming; and appoint the treasurer deputes to send to Bo'ness, North Berwick, Dunbar and Eyemouth to make stop and arrest all victual that is going out of the country and the ships, and to take notice of the persons who are sending away the victual, to the effect that they may be censured, punished and fined, and order given to him for that effect.

Report from the committee anent the ammunition read and approved, and appoint the committee for the excise to deal with the treasurer of the excise for performance thereof.

The estates give warrant to Mr Robert Hodge to bring in 40 horse with souks and sacks to carry meal from Leith to the castle of Edinburgh.

Appoint Sir William Dick [of Braid] to be tried by the committee of excise anent the 1,000 bolls of victual which he should have laid in, and to report tomorrow what is done therein to the parliament.

The estates join the committees of bills and overtures together, the quorum to be as above, and appoint the same to meet at 5 o'clock in the afternoon this day. And likewise the committee of fines and processes to meet this day at 5 o'clock in the afternoon.
