After prayers said, the rolls were called.
It being represented be a member of parliament that there are several comissioners to this parliament from burghes who are not capable to be elected, never having resided in these burghs which they represent; and this being signified to the comittee for elections sometyme agoe, nothing hes bein done by them therin, this was remitted to the comittee for elections to be considered by them.
The draught of ane act for securing the Protestant religione against popery and phanaticisme, being tyse read, was upon the desyre of severall members of parliament delayed untill the nixt meeting of parliament; and the act appoynted to ly open in the clerk of register's hands that any member of parliament may sie the same.
It was moved by some members that the act may be devydit, and that part therof considered which relates to the securitie of the Protestant religione against popery and the uther pairt relateing to phanaticisme may be brought in and ane act apart.
It was also moved that any members of parliament may be allowed to come in and be present at the articles whill this act of religione is under considderatione, it being a matter of so great importance.
The act for secureing the peace of the countrey being twyce read, and it being desyred by divers members that the same might be delayed untill the uther act of religione be brought in, it was put to the vote if the act should be delayed or not, and was carried in the negative.
It was moved that in regard the first clause of this act is a ratificatione of former acts in favors of the church government, and sieing the act 1662 wherby the estates of bishops was restored does rescind ane act 1592 (a pairt of which act is against popery and papists), therfor that there may be a clause in this act declaring that the act 1592 is rescinded by the forsaid act 1662 only in so far as the same is prejudiciall and derogately to the estate of bishopes; and that the same is to stand inforce as to the uther part therof against popery. This was refused to be insert in the act, but it was agreid that there should be ane act apairt brought in to that purpose by the lords of the articles.
Therefter the act being debated and put to the vote, it was approven.
His majesties high comissioner adjurnes the parliament untill Monday at ten a clock, and appoynts the articles to meet on Monday at nyn a clock.
