Anent a petition presented to the king's majestie and estates of parliament, by John, lord Belhaven and Robert Hamilton of Pressmennan, his father, representing that in anno jM vjC and sextie nine there was ane act of parliament past in the petitioners' favours for a warrand to have a weekly mercat on Tuesday at Stentoun, belonging to the supplicants, being a place convenient for mercats and faires, and two faires to be keept at the said place, but because the same was not put upon record in due time, the petitioners could not have ane extract thereof; and therefore, humbly supplicating that order and warrand of new again might be granted to the supplicants for the said weekly mercat and two faires to be held at the said town of Stentoun. The king's majestie and estates of parliament, haveing heard and considered the foresaid petition, doe hereby give and grant to the said John, lord Belhaven and Robert Hamilton of Pressmennan, his father, their aires and successors, the libertie and freedome of a weekly mercat to be keept in the said town of Stentoun upon Wednesday weekly, for buying and selling all provisions, commodities and merchandice needfull for the use of the place and inhabitants thereof and strangers resorting thereto, and the countrie thereabout, as also of two yearlie free faires, the one to be and begin yearlie upon the last Tuesday of May, to be called [...], and the other to be and begin yearlie upon the last Tuesday of October, to be called [...], and doe give and grant to them the tolles and customes of the said mercat and faires to be uplifted by them, or any whom they shall appoint, with all other profites, dewties, liberties and priviledges pertaining to or accustomed in any other faires or mercats.
