Our soveraign lord and estates of parliament, considering that his majesties' privy councell, for the conveniencie of his majesties' leidges attending the supream judicatories of this kingdome, and for ornament of the citie of Edinburgh, by their decreits and acts of the tuentie-one of February jM vjC and seventie eight and seventeen of March jM vjC and eightie one, did appoint the passage from the High Street to the Parliament Closs to be enlarged threttie foot eastward from the wall of the kirk, whereof tuentie foot to be for the passage of coaches and ten foot for a foot walk, and the housses to be built of aslery work and with piaches from the street to the southeast corner of the kirk, and from thence that the buildings be of plaine aslery work to be drawne in a right lyne as farr as that pairt of Thomas Robertsone's new building where the exchange is built, and ordained the heretors of the Brunt land, either to build in common in the way and maner foresaid, or such as would not build in common to sell and dispone their respective interests to the magistrats (that either they or some other undertakers may build) upon payment of the soumes whereat the same wer appretiat by a sworne inqueist, authorized to that effect by the councell; and for enlargeing the court, the saids lords have ordained that at the terme of Whitsonday nixt the goldsmiths' chops in the court and Stratounes land at the back thereof, shall be demolished, upon payment to be made to Arthure Stratoun of the soume contained in the decreit of councell, to the effect that the new land now in building by Mr Alexander Paterson, may front the court to the west, without any interruption, and whereas now the passage aforesaid is made conforme to the foresaid appointment, and the new buildings in a great measure advanced, our soveraign lord and estates of parliament are well satisfied with the foresaid designe, and have ratified and hereby ratifies and approves of the saids acts and decreits of councill, to the effect and intent foresaid, in the haill heads and articles thereof, and declare this ratification to be als valid and sufficient as if the saids decreits and acts were particularly insert and ingrossed herein, with the generalitie whereof his majestie hes dispensed and hereby dispenses for ever.
