Our soveraign lord and estates of parliament, presently conveened be his majesties' speciall authoritie, have ratified and approven and, be thir presents, ratifies and approves, ane chartor made and granted, under his majesties' great seale, of the date the fourth day of August jM vjC, thriescore [and] nyne years, whereby his majestie gave, granted and disponed to Patrick Smith of Braco, his airs, successors and assigneyes whatsomever, all and haill the lands, lordship and baronie of Methven, and lands called Kildeislands, and ane aiker of land in Cassoquhy, with the pertinents, with the castles, towers, fortalices, mannor places, housses, biggings, yairds, orchyairds, meadowes, milnes, woods, fishings, tennents, tennandries, service of frie tennents, advocations, donations and rights of patronages of the provestrie and prebendaries of the colledge kirk of Methven, and of all other kirks, prebendaries and chaplanries of the samen with their pertinents, with the libertie and priviledge of regality, free chappell and chancellary thereof, with all other liberties, priviledges and immunities pertaining thereto, all lyand within the shirefdome of Perth, upon the resignation of his majesties' umquhile right trusty and welbeloved cousine and counsellor Charles, duke of Lennox and Richmond etc., as the said chartor containeing ane new union and erection of the saids haill lands, lordship, baronie, regalitie, chappell and chancellarie, rights of patronages and others respective foresaids, in ane haill and free lordship and barony, to be called the lordship and barony of Methven in all time comeing, ordaining the castle, tower, fortalice and maner place of Methven to be the principall messuage thereof, whereat, or upon the ground of any other pairt of the said lordship and barony, ane seasing is to be taken for the whole in all time hereafter; to be holden of his majestie and his successors in free blensch, for payment of two pennies Scots money yearlie at Whitsonday in name of blensch ferme, if it be asked allenarlie, at more length proports; togither with the precept under the quarter seale and instrument of seasing following thereupon, in the haill heads, articles, clauses, tenors and contents thereof; and wills and grants and, for them and their successors, decernes and ordaines that the foresaid generall ratification is and shall be als valide, effectuall and sufficient to the said Patrick Smith, and his foresaids, as if the said chartor, precept and instrument of seasing following thereupon were herein speciallie and at length insert; whereanent and with all other exceptions or objections that may be moved, proponed or alledged against the validitie of the said ratification, his majestie, and estates of parliament foresaid, hes dispensed and, be thir presents, dispenses for ever. And farther, our said soveraign lord, with consent foresaid of his estates of parliament, be thir presents gives, grants, dispones and conferrs upon the said Patrick Smith of Braco and his foresaids, in all time comeing, ane yearlie free fair to be holden and keeped in the towne of Methven upon the thrid Thursday of October yearlie, to continue and endure for the space of three dayes, and that for buying and selling of horse, nolt, sheep, skins, hyds, tallow, butter, cheese, linning, plaiding, lining yairn, plaid wooll, woolen cloath, wyne, walx, daills, trees and all other kind of timber, cloath, broad and narrow of whatsomever colour or kind, victuall of all sorts and all other kinds of goods, merchandice and commodities whatsomever, alswell not named as named, foraign as native, and with power to them to appoint baillies, clerks, officers and other members of court requisit for the better government and management of the said fairs, and for whose administration they are to be answerable, and to punish transgressors, according to law, and to exact and uplift tolls and customes of all goods comeing to the said fair yearlie, and dispose thereupon at pleasure, and to doe and performe every other thing relating to the said yearlie fair, siclyke in the same maner and alse freely and fully in all respects and to all intents and purposes as any free burgh or heretors havers of yearlie free fairs have done, does or may doe in the like cases, at any time bygone or to come, be vertue of their particular gifts, rights and infeftments.
