Anent the supplication presented unto the king's majestie and estates of parliament be James, marques of Douglas, shewing that wher it is ordinar to grant mercats and fairs to be holdin at such convenient places as may best subsist with the conveniencie and accomodation of the leidges and publict good and advantage of the country, and the supplicant's burgh of Kirrimure, lyeing at far distance from any burgh royall or mercat toune, and many people from all parts of the heigh of Angus resorting ordinarly thither for buying of victuall, bestiall and other necessar commoditys of the cuntrie, is at a great lose and the haill cuntry sustaine much prejudice for want of public mercats and fairs at the said toune of Kirrymure, at these convenient tymes following viz, one to be holden upon the Tuesday imediatly befor Witsonday, one other to begine upon the first day of September, and ane other to begine and be holdin upon the Tuesday befor Mertimes yeerly; humblie therfore, craveing liberty might be granted to him for holding the saids three publict faires and mercats yeerlie at the said toune of Kirrimure, to begine on the dayes respective abovewrittin, and ilk ane of them to continow for the space of four dayes, and that by and attour the mercats and faires already keept at the said toune, and to grant the ordinar tols and customes due in the lyk case, as the said supplication at lenth bears. Which being seen and considered, the king's majestie, with advyce and consent of his estates in parliament, does heerby grant libertie to the said James, marques of Douglas to hold the three faires above specified viz, one to begine upon the Tuesday imediatlie befor Witsonday, the second of the saids faires to begine upon the first day of September, and the third and last of the saids faires to begine upon the Tuesday befor Mertimes yeerly, and ilk ane of the saids faires to continow for the space of fouer dayes, for buying and selling in the same horse, nolt, sheep, meill, malt, fish, flesh and all other merchand wair necessar and usefull in the cuntry, and that by and attour the faires already keept at the said toune, and with pouer to the said James, marques of Douglas, or such as he shall appoint, to collect, uplift and ressave the tols, customes and dutys of the saids faires, and to injoy all other priviledges and immunitys usuall, sicklyk and als freelie in all respects as any other in the lyk case hes done or may doe.
