Anent the supplication, presented unto the king's majestie and estates of parliament be William Scot of Ardross, shewing that the supplicant, many yeers agoe upon his owne charges, built the church of Elie, and out of his oune means and estate did setle a small stipend to the minister serveing the cure at the said kirk, and that the said kirk hath vaiked for some yeers bygon, dureing the which space both the kirk and manse are become ruinous and are lyk to fall to the ground unles remeed be provyded be ordering the bygon vacand stipend of the said kirk to be applyed for helping and repairing of the said kirk and manse, and that the stipend of the said kirk, being now only seven hundred merks yeerlie, the same hes great need of some augmentation, which may be done be adding to the stock of the forsaid stipend the superplus arreirs of the said vacand stipend, that is and shall be more then the charges of repareing of the said kirk and manse; humblie therefore, desyreing order and warrand might be given to him for uplifting and applying the said vacand stipends of the said kirk of Elie for the ends and uses forsaid, the same being both necessar and pious works, as the said supplication at lenth bears. Which being red and considered the king's majestie, with advyce and consent of his estates in parliament, do heerby give order and warrand to the said William Scot of Ardross to uplift the vacand stipends of the said kirk of Elie, and to cause repair the samen and manse therof out of the first end of the vacand stipends of the same, and to add the superplus arreirs of the said vacand stipends, that is and shall be more then the charges of repairing of the said kirk and manse, to the stock of the forsaid stipend to remaine therewith in all tyme coming.
