For as much as the king's most excellent majestie, from his princelie zeal and fatherlie care of the weelfare and happines of his subjects (persisting in the same pious and prudent resolution of his royall grandffather King James, of ever blissed memorie, to endeavour a nearer and more compleet union betueen his tuo kingdoms of Scotland and England), hath recommended it to the parliaments of both kingdoms that commissioners might be nominat to treat and consult concerning this union, to the end that his majesties' royall and gracious purposses therin may be accomplished, and such a further union may be treated and agreed upon as may compleat and confirme for ever a constant mutuall love and freindship betuixt his subjects of both realms.
Therfor his majestie, with advyce and consent of his estates of parliament, doth heerby statute, ordaine and enact that such persons or quorum therof as shall be nominat be his majestie, under his great seal of Scotland are, be vertew and authoritie of this act, authorized, commissionat and impoured to meet and assemble at such tymes and places as his majestie shall appoint, and there to treat and consult, according to the tenor of there commission and authoritie in that behalf under the great seal, with the commissioners authorized by authoritie of the parliament of England, of and concerning such a union of the realmes of Scotland and England, and of and concerning such other maters, causses and things whatsoever as, upon mature deliberation, the greatest part of the saids commissioners assembled, as said is, and the commissioners authorized by the parliament of England, according to the tenor and purport of the commission in that behalf, shall in ther wisdoms think convenient and necessarie for the honour of his majestie and weell and comon good of both kingdoms dureing his majesties' lyf (which Almightie God mak long and prosperous) and of his aires and laufull successors for ever. Which commissioners of both kingdoms shall, according to the tenor and purport of the commissions in that behalf, reduce there doeings and proceidings therin into wryteings or instruments, tripartite everie part, to be subscryved and sealed be them to the end that one part therof may in all humblenes be presented to the king's most excellent majestie, another part therof offered to the consideration of the parliament of Scotland, and another part to be offered to the consideration of the parliament of England, at ther nixt sessions to be held in aither kingdom respective, after such wryteings or instruments shall be subcryved and sealed be the saids comissioners, that therupon such further proceidings may be had as by his majestie and both the saids parliaments shall be thought fit and necessarie for the weell and comon good of both the said kingdoms, to whom the entire consideration of the whole and the allowing or disallowing therof, or any part therof as they shall think fit, is whollie reserved. Lykas his majestie, with advyce and consent forsaid, doth heerby statute and declair that noe mater or thing to be proposed, treated of or agreed by the saids comissioners be vertew of this act shall have any force or effect, or be put in execution, untill it be confirmed and established by act of the parliament of Scotland.
The commissioner adjourns the parliament till the thrid of August.
