Anent a supplication presentit to the king's majestie and estates of parliament, in name of Sir Alexander Morison of Prestongrange, mentioning that the lands of Prestongrange, perteaning heretablie to the petitioner, lyand within the constabularie of Hadingtoun and shirreffdome of Edinburgh, are publict places of resort and ly upon hie wayes and that, for the incouragement and advantage of these who duell upon the samen lands and for the utilitie and proffite of the whole cuntrey and shyres adjacent therto, and for policie and keeping trade and commerce amongst his majesties' leidges and subjects in these bounds, it is most convenient and necessary that ther be fairs and publict mercats established in the lands forsaid; humbly therfor, desyreing warrand for holding ane fair yeerly upon the tuentie-sevent day of July, to continow for the space of tuo days, with ane weekly mercat on Tuisday, to be keept at the place commonlie called Cuttill in the toun of Saltpans, within the saids lands and barronie of Prestongrange, as the supplication at lenth bears. Which being taken into consideration, the king's majestie, with advice and consent of his estates of parliament, doe heirby give and grant to the said Sir Alexander Morison of Prestongrange, his airs and successors, ane yeerlie frie fair to be keept upon the tuentie-sevent day of July yeerlie, for the space of tuo dayes, with ane weekly mercat to be holden at the place comonly called Cuttill, in the toun of Saltpans, within the saids lands and barronie of Prestongrange, for buying and selling of horse, nolt, sheip and all sort of merchandice and other commodities necesser and usefull for the cuntrey, with power to the said Sir Alexander Morison and his forsaids, or such as they shall appoint, to collect, uplift and receave the tolls, customes and dewties belonging to the said yeerlie fair and weekly mercat, and to apply the samen to their oun use, and to enjoy all other freedomes, liberties and immunities, siclyk and als freelie as any other in the lyk caces hes done or may doe in tyme comeing.†
