The estates of parliament, haveing heard a supplication presented unto them be James, lord Forrester, mentioning that he and his tennents in Corstorphing had extreamelie suffered in the yeers 1650 and 1651 by the enemies forces, alswell as these belonging to the king's majestie, and that by granting them the libertie of four frie fairs in the yeer, it being a burgh of baronie and a fit place for ease of the leidges and selling of horse, nolt, sheip, bestiall and other goods and merchandice, their former damages will therby, in some measure, be repaired; and humbly desyreing ane grant of the saids four faires yeerly, as the supplication bears. Which being taken into consideration be the king's majesties' commissioner and estates of parliament, they doe allow unto the said James, lord Forester and his successors four frie fairs, with all freedomes therto belonging, yeerly to be keept and holden in all tyme comeing within the said toun of Corstorphing upon the respective dayes following viz, one fair upon the first Tuisday after Easter, the second upon the tuenty-fourt of July, the thrid upon the tuenty-sext of August, and the fourt upon the tuenty of October, and incaice any of the forsaids dayes fall to be a Sabboth day, that the fair be keept the next day following; with full power to the said James, lord Forester and his successors, or such as they shall appoint, to collect, gather, intromet with and uplift the tolls, customes, casualities and other dues of the saids fairs, according to the ordinary custome used in lyk caces; and recommends to the lords of his majesties' exchequer to passe ane signatour heirupon in favours of the said James, lord Forester and his successours, in sick due and competent forme as effeirs.
