Thair being a petitione of James Lockart of Cleggorne, for himselfe and in name of divers uthrs, heretors and inhabitants of the parish of Lanerik, presented to us holding furth that the bridge of Cleggorne situat within the said parish and dividing the one halfe therof from the uthr over the water of Mouse, being not only so necessar and ordinar a pas in ther going and returning from ther severall dwellings to the town and ther parish kirk of Lanerik, bot also the most frequented way by all travellers from Glasgow, Linlithgow, and uthr pts to many of the mercat towns and places in the south of this kingdome, is now become so ruinous that giff timously the samyne bridg be not repaird, it will inavoidablie whollie perish and decay, wherby the people of all ranks will therby receave great prejudice and detriment for many and weightie considerations speit in the said petitione. And therfor humblie praying that your g[race] and high court of parliament would be pleased to appoynt ane collectione and contribution of all persones within the shirriffdomes of Lanerik, Linlithgow and Peibles respectiue, and of such uthr neibouring parts and places therabout as may extend to the defraying of the charges and expenss in the reparation and reedification of the forsaid bridge. Which petitione and desire therof being considered be us togethr with ane certificat of the presbetry of Lanerik holding forth the trueth of the premiss; and als having conferred with severall gentlemen of qualitie known in that affaire, it is our humblie opinion that the desire of the forsaid petitione should be grantit.

Approves the report and ordanis the contribution to be levied by such a persone who salbe designed by the justices of the peace of Lanerkshyre and imployed on the work by him that sight.
