Our soveran lord, with advice and consent of the estates of parliament now presently conveened by his majesties' warrand and authority, hes ratified, approven and confirmed and, be the tenor heirof, ratifies, approves and confirmes to and in favours of his majesties' right traist cusine and councellour William, earle of Dalhoussie, the charter made, given and granted be his majesties' umqhile dearest father, of blessed memorie, to the said noble earle dureing his lifetyme, of all and haill the office of shirreffship within the bounds of the shirreffdome of Edinburgh principall, with all and sindrie liberties, priveledges, immunities, dignities and casualities pertaineing and belonging or that is knoun to perteane and belong to the said office, and wherby he is constitute shirreff within the bounds forsaids, with power to him, dureing his lifetyme, to brook, enjoy, intromet with and uplift, use and exerce the said office of shirreffship of the said shirreffdome, with the liberties, priveledges, dignities, immunities, proffeits, casualities, commodities and dewties perteaneing and belonging, or that is knoune to perteane and belong therto, and to place and substitute deputs, ane or mae, in the said office and to nominat and creat clerks and others members of court neidfull, for whom he is to be ansuerable, and to use, doe and exerce all other things necessarie anent the premisses, siclyk in the same maner and als freely in all respects as any other shirreff within this kingdome did at any time bygone or may doe in tyme comeing, be vertew of the said office, in maner specified in the said charter under his majesties' great seale of the date, the tuenty-fourt day of October 1646 yeers, in all and sindrie the heids, clauses, circumstances and conditions whatsumever thairincontained and after the forme and tenor of the same in all points, and wills and grants and, for his majestie and his successors with consent forsaid, decernes and ordaines this present ratification to be als valeid and sufficient in all respects to the said earle for enjoying the said office dureing his said lifetyme, as if the forsaid charter made to him therupon wer heirin at lenth repeited, insert and ratified, wheranent his majestie hes dispensed and, be thir presents, dispences for now and ever.
