Our soverane lord, with advice and consent of his estates of parliament, takeing to consideration a supplication given in be the provest, baillies and councill of the burgh of Rutherglen beareing the said burgh to have been erected a frie burgh by King David in the yeer 1126, and so hes continewed untill this day, bot in a verie meane and low condition thir many yeares bygone by reasone of its contiguitie with the citie of Glasgow who hes all the commerce and treading in those parts, so that their antient royall burgh is lyk to decay and rwine; and therfor, craveing that in regaird the said burgh hath bot tuo faires in the yeer viz, Trinity Tuisday and Luksmes, ther might be tuo faires more added to the said burgh, the one to be holden and begin upon the tuenty eight of Aprile and the other upon the tuentie of August yeerlie, each of them to continew for the space of four dayes, as the supplication bears; thairfor our saids soverane lord and estates of parliament recommends to the lords of his majesties' exchequer to passe ane new signatour in favours of the said burgh of Rutherglen adding tuo new faires to the said burgh, the one to begin upon the tuentie eight of Aprile and the other upon the tuenty day of August yeerly, and each of them to continew for the space of four dayes.
