The estaits of parliament, having herd and considerit ane suplicatioun givin in to them be Liuetenent Colonell Johne Erskine, shewing, as it is weill knowin to my lord merques of Argyll and severall uthers then upon the committie of estaits, that the suplicant cam from Durhame heir and did give intelligence to the committie of estaits that James Grahame, then callit the erle of Montrois, wes upon his mairch coming to this kingdome with ane army, as he cam verie shortlie thaireftir to the toune of Drumfries, [and] upon the said suplicant's coming to this kingdome, it pleasit the committie of estaits to intertein him in ther service and did command him to goe to the north undir my lord merques of Argyll and wes at the taking of the laird of Haddo and severall others in the north. Eftir and upon the incoming of Alexander McDonald with his Irishes to this kingdome, the said suplicant wes commandit be the parliament then sitting to goe to [the] iles and thair to receave my lord merques of Argyll, his ordor, whair it pleasit my lord merques to give him the command of his owine regiment of Lorne and wes [with] his lord whill his coming to Perth with his army, whither it pleasit the committie of estaits, with his lord's advyse, to command the said suplicant to stay in the toune of Perth, whair he had the command of the garisone for a tyme, and wes still in the publict service untill that unhappie conflict at Killsyth, whair he wes and hes still till this tyme attendit the saids estaits, thair service, and as yit he hes gottin verie litill satisfactioun for all his saidis services and attendance, be means whairof he is redacted to [a] verie necessitous and sad conditioun; yit notwitstanding whairof and of many allurments to undertak in the lait unlaufull Ingadgment, he still refused all maner of complyance, the which is weill knowin to severall weill affected in this citie. It pleasit the committie of estaits in October last to appoint the said suplicant ane locallitie out of the shyrs of Forfar and Kincardin of ane hundreth merks per mensem and ratified in parliament in Februarii last, the which is provin alltogidder ineffectuall, by means whairof the said is driven to extream necessitie. The premiss tenderlie considerit, his humble request is that† the saids estaits of parliament wold be pleasit to tak his miserable and sad conditioun to thair serious consideratioun and give ordor that he may furthwith receave some satisfactioun for his bygane service and attendance and be provydit for in tyme to come as the saidis estaits of parliament shall think fitt, as at mair lenth is conteinit in the said suplicatioun. Quhilk, with the report of the committie thairanent, being takin in consideratioun be the saidis estaits of parliament, they have ordainit and ordanis the committies of war of the shirefdoms of Forfar and Kincardin to cause pay the said Liuetenent Colonell Erskine the soume of thrie hundreth threttie thrie merks furth of the frie rent lyeing within the said shyre[s] dew to the suplicant for thrie months and ten dayis pay conforme to ane former act, and ordanis the commanders of troops and companys lying in these bounds to be assisting to the said Liuetenent Colonell Erskine to quarter upon the saids committies of war within ten days eftir intimatioun of this act to them, they failzeing to cause pay the said soume to the said supplicant.
