The estates of parliament etc., having taken into their consideration the supplication of Sir Walter Stewart of Minto, knight, against Sir Ludovic Stewart, his son, for several violences and oppressions and unheard of injuries committed by him against the said Sir Walter, with the report of a commission granted to Sir George Maxwell of Nether Pollok, knight, William Ralston of that ilk, William Muir of Glanderston and George Porterfield, provost of Glasgow, together also with the supplication of the said Sir Ludovic Stewart against the said Sir Walter, his father, with the danger of horning under which the said parties lie, so that they cannot safely appear before the said parliament to answer to the supplications and desires thereof given in by either of the said parties against others and report of the said commission; in respect whereof, the said estates give and grant free liberty, licence and protection to the said Sir Walter Stewart and Sir Ludovic Stewart to proceed to the burgh of Edinburgh safely for compearing before the said parliament or committee of bills and answering to either of the supplications and desires thereof given in against others and report of the commission aforesaid to 10 March next to come. During which space the said estates of parliament hereby discharge all magistrates and ministers of his majesty's laws, either in burgh or landward, all sheriffs of the sheriffdoms, bailies of the bailiaries and regalities, stewarts of the stewartries and all their deputes, provost and bailies of burghs, messengers of arms and all others whatsoever of all taking, apprehending, incarcerating, arresting or in any way of troubling the said Sir Walter and Sir Ludovic Stewart in their persons for whatsoever cause or occasion during the said space. During which space the said estates of parliament declare this act to be a sufficient warrant for their public journey to and appearing before the said parliament to the effect aforesaid to the said 10 March next to come, and that notwithstanding of any hornings, captions used or to be used. And the said estates ordain the said Sir Walter and Sir Ludovic Stewart to appear before the parliament or committee thereof between now and 20 February instant to answer to the said supplications and report of the said commission, and in the meantime discharge the said Sir Ludovic Stewart of any further meddling with any of his father's rents, mails, duties and others pertaining and belonging to the said Sir Walter Stewart, his father, until they be both further heard in the said matter, and that under such pain as the parliament shall think fit.
