The estates of parliament, having considered the two controverted commissions produced for the shire of Clackmannan, the one thereof to Mr Robert Meldrum of Tullibody and the other to Mr Robert Bruce of Shambodie (and in his absence, to Sir Charles Erskine [of Alva, Bandeath and Cambuskenneth]), together with the rights and infeftments produced for [Robert Bruce], the young laird of Clackmannan for the lairds of Easter Kennet, John Stirling of Herbertshire for the lands of [...] and Thomas and John Scotland for the lands of Easter and Wester Dollarbeg, according to a former order of parliament for production thereof, to instruct that the persons above-named had place and vote in the election of the commissioners of the said shire, according to the act of parliament made relating thereto, as having a forty shilling land held by each one of them of the king's majesty. As also having heard and considered the other writs and papers hereupon produced by the said Mr Robert Meldrum and Sir Charles Erskine for fortifying their several commissions respectively and against others, the said estates of parliament, after debate and voting, have approved and sustain and approve the commission produced granted to the said Mr Robert Meldrum and prefer the same to the other commission granted to the said Mr Robert Bruce and in his absence to the said Sir Charles Erskine, and admit and receive the said Mr Robert Meldrum to sit and have place and vote in this present parliament as commissioner for the said sheriffdom of Clackmannan, who being personally present did according take and swear the oath of parliament. And the estates declare that in the aforesaid decision and determination above-written they have had no respect to the votes and subscriptions of the said young laird of Clackmannan, John Stirling of Herbertshire, Thomas and John Scotland to any of the aforesaid two commissions produced by virtue of their infeftments and rights now produced of the lands above-mentioned, seen and considered by the estates as said is, seeing it is not thereby instructed that each one of them has a forty shilling land held of the king, according to the act of parliament made anent the election of commissioners of shires to the parliament.
