Warrant: for a pass and approbation to Sir Frederick Hamilton and his two sons
Pass in favour of Sir Frederick Hamilton and his two sons

Whereas on 27 February 1644 it was enacted by the committee of estates of this kingdom then sitting at Edinburgh that a regiment of horse should immediately be lifted within this kingdom for preventing foreign invasions, internal plots of malignants and their adherents, and for seeing the orders directed by them put to execution, and for keeping the subjects in a dutiful obedience to his majesty, the laws and public judicatories, the charge and command of which regiment and place was by the aforesaid committee of estates given and granted to Sir Frederick Hamilton, knight and colonel, with all the maintenance, privileges and liberties thereto belonging, wherein the said Sir Frederick has faithfully, dutifully and gallantly behaved himself; and it being now resolved by the parliament of this kingdom, for good considerations moving them, that no entire regiment of horse shall stand, so that the said Sir Frederick and all the rest of the regiments of horse are to disband, therefore the estates of parliament do declare and thankfully acknowledge the faithful and true service done by the said Sir Frederick and his two sons, Captain Frederick and Captain James Hamilton, meriting thereby from this kingdom hearty thanks and approbation, and that being so exonerated they are free to seek and accept any further employment suitable to their worth.
