Act in favour of [Alexander Lindsay], lord Balcarres

The estates of parliament, taking into their consideration the desire of the supplication of Alexander, lord Balcarres and that the parliament by their act of 4 February last conveyed to the Lord Balcarres, his heirs and assignees the lands of Gorthie and remaining other lands of that estate, with the pertinents, lying within the sheriffdom of Perth, sometime pertaining to David Graham of Gorthie and by his forfeiture pertaining to the estates of this kingdom, in payment to the Lord Balcarres of the principal sum of £20,000 and annualrents thereof due to him by the public and in satisfaction of the remuneration promised to the supplicant by the estates for his faithful service done for the country. And by the same act the estates gave power to the committee for the monies to cause form, grant, subscribe and deliver to the Lord Balcarres a formal and valid disposition of the lands and others above-mentioned in ample form with all clauses necessary, without prejudice to the Lady Gorthie of her liferent right of the lands wherein she is infeft and to the creditors of her husband of the sums owing to them by him and other obligations in their favour, which are reserved unprejudiced, according to the act of parliament made in favour of the creditors and cautioners of forfeited persons, as the said act more fully purports. The said estates of parliament do hereby give full power and warrant to the committee of monies to cause form, grant, subscribe and deliver to the said Alexander, lord Balcarres, his heirs and assignees a formal and valid disposition of the lands and others above-written in ample form with all clauses necessary, declaring the same to be a valid security of the aforesaid lands to the said Alexander, lord Balcarres and his aforesaids in all time coming, without prejudice as above, according to the former act above-mentioned.
