Orders of parliament to General Major Middleton

The estates of parliament ordain General Major Middleton to have his forces in the best posture to prevent all new disturbances and to have in readiness such companies of foot and troops of horse as shall be necessary to be the guards for safety of the king's majesty (in case he shall come into Scotland) and of the parliament, and that the magistrates of Edinburgh, with the advice and assistance of the general major, put this town in the best posture to suppress and prevent all tumults.
