Anent the supplication given in to the estates of parliament etc., whereof the tenor follows: The humble petition of the inhabitants of the town of Cullen to the honourable estates of parliament, shows that our whole town is lately burned by the enemy and all our goods robbed and taken from us so that we are utterly harried; our desire is that your honours would be pleased to grant us a recommendation to the noblemen, gentlemen and burgesses dwelling north of the River Forth for giving us some support to rebuild our houses and maintain us in our present necessity, and your honours' answer humbly we beseech, as the supplication bears. Which supplication being read in audience of the estates of parliament and the same, with the desire thereof, taken into their consideration, the said estates grant the desire of the supplication above-written for a voluntary contribution for the use aforesaid from all persons dwelling north of the River Forth, providing always, likewise it is hereby provided that the same contribution so to be collected shall not exceed the sum of £40,000 Scots.
