The estates of parliament, presently convened in the third session of this first triennial parliament by virtue of the last act of the last parliament held by his majesty and three estates in 1641, taking into consideration the necessity of managing the war and that a committee be nominated for that effect, therefore they have nominated and appointed and herby nominate and appoint [Archibald Campbell], marquis of Argyll, [William Keith], earl Marischal, [William Cunningham], earl of Glencairn, [John Kennedy], earl of Cassilis, [James Murray], earl of Tullibardine and [Alexander Lindsay], lord Balcarres for the nobility; [Mr George Winram], laird of Liberton, [Sir John Hamilton of Orbiston], justice clerk, lairds [Mr George Dundas of] Manor, [Mr William Cochrane of] Cowdoun, [Sir Alexander Brodie of] Brodie and [Mr Robert Meldrum of] Burghlie for the barons; the commissioners [James Simpson for] Dundee, [Patrick Leslie of Iden for] Aberdeen, [William Glendinning of Gelstoun for] Kirkcudbright, [Thomas Bruce of Weltoun for] Stirling, [James Peddie for] Montrose and [George Jamieson for] Cupar for the burghs (or any 11 of the whole, there being three of every estate), [John Lindsay, earl of Crawford Lindsay], president of parliament, to be supernumerary in this committee, to treat anent the present condition of the country and anent the managing and carrying on of the war against the rebels, as the said committee or quorum thereof aforesaid shall find convenient. With power to the said committee to call any members of the parliament or officers whose advice will be useful to them, and they order this committee to report to the parliament tomorrow at 2 o'clock in the afternoon, and that public business be put first to a point and that this committee and business treated before them be first concluded and put to a point.
