Act permitting [John Fleming], lord Fleming to speak with his brother, Sir William Fleming

The which day the estates of parliament, now presently convened by virtue of the last act made in the last parliament held by his majesty and the three estates in 1641, having taken into their consideration a supplication given in to the parliament by John, lord Fleming, making mention that Sir William Fleming, his brother, one of his majesty's ordinary servants, hearing of the sickness of John [Fleming], earl of Wigtown, their father, came to Carlisle with the intention to see his sick father before his death, not presuming to come within the country without a pass; and therefore desiring licence to come within this kingdom to the effect aforesaid, and there to stay such time as the parliament should appoint, and that he might pass and return without trouble; or otherwise to grant licence to the said John, lord Fleming to pass to some part of the border where the said Lord Fleming may most conveniently speak with the said Sir William, his brother, concerning their own affairs only in the company and before whom the parliament should think fit, as the said supplication purports. The said estates grant warrant and licence to the said John, lord Fleming to pass to any part of the southern borders of this kingdom where he may most conveniently meet with the said Sir William Fleming, his brother, in the presence and hearing of Mr George Douglas of Pinwherrie and Mr Alexander MacGowan, minister at Mouswald, at any time between the date hereof and 20 June instant inclusive, the said Mr George Douglas and Mr Alexander MacGowan being always present and auditors of what is to be spoken and of the conference that shall be between the said John, lord Fleming and the said Sir William Fleming, his brother. And the estates ordain the aforesaid meeting, speech and conference of the said John, lord Fleming with the said Sir William Fleming, his brother, to be in the presence and hearing of the said Mr George Douglas and Mr Alexander MacGowan and to be concluded and ended between now and 20 June instant inclusive as said is.
