Procedure: protest over precedency

[James Douglas], earl of Queensberry protested that the nomination and calling of [John Lindsay], earl of Lindsay before him should not prejudice him of his due place of precedency before the earl of Lindsay.

Mr Thomas Nicolson, for the earl of Lindsay, protested in the contrary.

The estates grant power and commission to the earls [John Erskine, earl of] Mar and [William Cunningham, earl of] Glencairn for the noblemen, the lairds [Sir Alexander Falconer of] Halkerton and [John Brisbane of] Bishopton for the barons, the commissioners [George Bell for] Linlithgow and [George Gardyne for] Burntisland for the burghs (or any three of them, one for every estate) to receive, revise and consider all bills, supplications and ratifications to be presented to this parliament. With power to them or their quorum to grant warrants for citation of parties to compear before the parliament or committee of estates after parliament, in case the parliament rise before the day of compearance, and ordain this committee not to determine but to report to the parliament and to reject what bills they think are not competent to be received, without prejudice to the supplicants to present these to the parliament.

Committee for considering upon the way of the approbation of the calling of the convention of estates

The estates grant commission to the lords [John Elphinstone, lord] Balmerino and [Robert Balfour, lord Balfour of] Burleigh for the noblemen, the lairds [Sir John Shaw of] Greenock and [Mr George Dundas of] Manor for the barons, and the commissioners [Thomas Haliburton for] Dundee and [John Lepar for] St Andrews for the burghs to consider upon the way of approbation of the calling of the convention of estates and all their proceedings and what has flowed from them, and to report what they think fit relating thereto, and ordain [Sir Alexander Gibson of Durie], lord register and clerk of council, to be present with this committee.

Order: concerning the committees of war
Ordinance anent the committees of war

The estates ratify the whole nominations made for the whole shires of their committees of war in their several divisions and continue them in the same form as they are, and approve the committees named by [Archibald Campbell], marquis of Argyll for the northern shires of Kincardine, Aberdeen and Banff, except such as are cited to the parliament or are under caution to appear before the parliament, who are excepted and are not to have charge in the committees; and ordain the commissioners in this parliament from these several shires to acquaint the committees of their shires with this order.
