Warrant: concerning the quartering of the regiments from Ireland
Quartering of soldiers

The estates nominate and appoint [Sir Michael Balfour of] Denmilne and James Stewart to peruse the account of the quartering of the regiments that come out of Ireland in the sheriffdom of Lanark and burgh of Glasgow, and to report.

Legislation
Act in favour of Colonel Stewart

The estates having heard the desire of Colonel William Stewart that he may uplift the rents of the lands of Bargaly and Barhoise purchased by him from John Maxwell of Drumcoltran, and that in regard the said colonel was required before the perfecting of the said sureties to go to England with the army, and now the said John Maxwell is gone to England with [James Graham] earl of Montrose and dare not come in, and the term of Whitsunday [9 June] now approaches when the said lands must be set and the duties and rents thereof uplifted, otherwise the land will be laid waste, the estates, in regard of the said colonel's necessary employment in England, allow him or any having his warrant to intromit with the rent of the said lands of Bargaly and Barhoise for the crop 1644, the said colonel finding caution for making the rents thereof forthcoming to the public as he shall be required.

The estates nominate the earls [William Cunningham, earl of] Glencairn, [John Kennedy, earl of] Cassilis, [John Maitland, earl of] Lauderdale, [William Hamilton, earl of] Lanark, [John Hay, lord] Yester, [John Elphinstone, lord] Balmerino, [John Hamilton, lord] Bargany, [Sir Alexander Falconer of] Halkerton, [Mr William Cochrane of] Cowdoun, [Sir Patrick Hepburn of] Waughton and [Sir Archibald Johnston of] Wariston, the commissioners [Sir John Smith of Grotehill and Robert Meiklejohn for] Edinburgh, [George Brown for] Dundee, [Robert Taylor for] St Andrews and [James Bell for] Glasgow to meet and consider the best way of ordering the parliament house and whether or not it be fit that the members of parliament ride to the house or not.

Petition: in favour of Sir John Veitch of Dawyck
Sir John Veitch [of Dawyck]

The which day Sir John Veitch offered to the estates that if they give him power to intromit with [John Stewart], earl of Traquair's rent for the crop 1643, he would not only pay all public dues with the annualrent of lawful creditors, but would presently give in to the public £1,000 sterling. Which offer the estates accepted and granted his desire.
