[Minutes of the committee appointed for drawing up the gift and act of the lord chancellor's nomination]

1 October 1641

At the meeting of the committee appointed for drawing up the gift and act of the lord chancellor's nomination and election to that place, the first part of the gift and act is agreed, namely: that the gift shall be verbally, according to the act of parliament, that his majesty did nominate and make choice of [John Campbell], lord Loudoun to be chancellor, with advice and approbation of the estates, and that the act of the said election should ordain a gift to be granted. And for the second part regarding the honours, privileges etc. it was controverted whether all privileges formerly possessed by any chancellor should be granted or if the same should be restricted to privileges that may now be possessed by the laws of this kingdom, and in respect the commissioners for the barons were sent for to the king's majesty, therefore the rest of the committee refers this to the parliament.
