[Supplication read and warrant granted for prisoner's release; commissions and acts approved; nomination of master of requests]

The king being present.

Supplication by Master John Guthrie, sometime pretended Bishop of Moray, desiring to be put to liberty, read in audience of his majesty and estates of parliament, who ordain him to be put to liberty with provision he do not return to the diocese of Moray. And ordain a warrant to be directed to the provost and bailies of Edinburgh for that effect.

Commission for conserving the peace between the two kingdoms, according to the articles [of the treaty], read, voted and passed in parliament.

Commission regarding the articles of the treaty remaining unperformed read, voted and passed in parliament.

Commission for the council read, voted and passed in parliament.

Act in favour of those who were cited to the parliament as enemies, discharging them of the process, read, voted and passed in parliament.

The king's majesty, with advice and approbation of the estates of parliament, nominates and elects Sir James Galloway to be master of requests during his lifetime, and appoints him to be added in the commission for the council.

Commission for trying the incendiaries and plotters read, voted and passed in parliament.

Act regarding the five incendiaries and act regarding the plotters read, voted and passed in parliament, whereupon his majesty made a gracious declaration which ordains to be recorded and printed after the said acts.

Commission for revising the registers read, voted and passed in parliament, and ordains the commissioners foresaid to meet when [John Campbell, lord Loudoun], lord chancellor, shall appoint, but declares the same is in no way prejudicial to [Sir Alexander Gibson of Durie], clerk register, of receiving, keeping and using of the said registers and keys thereof in the meantime, according to his right and place.

Act discharging the quots of testaments read, voted and passed in parliament, and his majesty did graciously condescend thereto.

Supplication by the procurators of the estates, craving exoneration and recompense of their service, read in audience of his majesty and estates of parliament, who remit the same to the committee appointed for the common burdens for the recompense. And in the meantime, ordain them to have payment of bygones, according to the act, and an exoneration of their bygone service.

But in respect [Alexander Livingstone], earl of Linlithgow's patent for making powder is hereby discharged, and that he has formerly bestowed some charges upon the said works, therefore remits to the council to take consideration of the said expenses and to grant recompense for the same. And the like done to [John Erskine], earl of Mar for his patent of leather.

Act regarding the bleaching and breadth of linen cloth read, voted and passed in parliament to have beginning at Lammas [1 August] next.

Act discharging the lords' sentence of silver and 12 pennies of the pound read, voted and passed in parliament.

Act in favour of the town of Glasgow, giving them liberty to choose their own magistrates, read, voted and passed in parliament, to which [James Stewart], duke of Lennox, personally present, gave consent and Patrick Bell, commissioner and provost of Glasgow, asked instruments for the said town.

Act regarding wardlands held of the king and prince, reducing the act of 1633, read, voted and passed in parliament.

Act discharging the two and a half of the £104 upon the tun of wine being read in parliament, his majesty declared that he will consent thereto upon this condition: that commission and warrant be granted to the exchequer to establish the book of rates accordingly as the prices of merchandise now rule, wherein the king permitted the option to the burghs and they promised to advise thereupon until tomorrow.

Act regarding mortifications, that they be not abused, read and continued until tomorrow.

Act regarding the breadth of plaiding read, voted and passed in parliament to have beginning at Lammas [1 August] next.

Supplication by [John Grant of] Moyness against [MacDonald of] Glengarry, being moved in parliament, they ordain the Laird of Glengarry to compear before the council the first council day, and ordains his caution to stand until that time.

Supplication by Sir Robert Spottiswood [of Dunipace] and Sir John Hay [of Bara], craving enlargement, read in audience of his majesty and estates of parliament, who ordain the supplicants to be put to liberty, they finding caution to behave themselves in such a quiet manner as may conduce most for the peace of the kingdom and according to the acts of parliament, wherein if they fail, the favour granted to them by the king and parliament to be null. And also finding caution to appear before the committee whensoever they shall be required.

Supplication by [James Graham], earl of Montrose, [Archibald Napier], lord Napier, [Sir George Stirling], laird of Keir and [Sir Archibald Stewart of] Blackhall, desiring to be enlarged upon security, granted upon the like caution and deliverance.

The like caution to be taken of Lieutenant Colonel Walter Stewart and he to be enlarged.

Concerning those who are out of the country and cited to return, the king's majesty and estates of parliament grant them liberty to return again to the kingdom, they finding the like caution with the like certification before the council.

Two supplications by Master Alexander Colville [of Blair] and Master James Robertson, justice deputes, being moved to his majesty and estates of parliament craving their bygone fees, they remit the same to the exchequer.

Supplication by Alexander Cunningham, craving payment of his losses extending to £430 sterling, being moved to the king's majesty and estates of parliament, they ordain the said sum of £430 to be paid to the supplicant for the causes contained in the petition.

Supplication by [Ludovic Lindsay], earl of Crawford, craving to be liberated of his restraint, being moved to the parliament, [James Hamilton], marquis of Hamilton, [Archibald Campbell], earl of Argyll and [William Hamilton, earl of] Lanark earnestly entreated the king's majesty to liberate the said supplicant and all others who were restrained upon the late 'Incident', whereupon the king's majesty and estates of parliament ordain him to be put to freedom and liberty.

Supplication by Lieutenant Colonel John Munro, desiring to be put to liberty, being moved to the king's majesty and estates of parliament, they ordain him to be put to liberty.

Supplication by Captain William Stewart, craving a recommendation for his father and himself to the parliament of England for his losses in Ireland, being moved to the king's majesty and estates of parliament, they grant the recommendation mentioned therein and appoint the same to be drawn up.
