The king being present.
The king's majesty represented to the parliament his intelligence of the commotions in Ireland, which he had taken so far to consideration as to give speedy advertisement to his parliament of England and sent some persons to Ireland to bring certain knowledge to his majesty. And because the kingdom of Ireland depends merely upon the crown of England, so that this kingdom could not undertake anything in the first place, yet he desired the estates of this kingdom to take such serious course for preparing and having in readiness some forces and supplies to be sent thither when they were required as might testify their hearty disposition to his majesty's service and their affection to their brethren of his majesty's neighbouring kingdoms. And the estates, taking the same deeply to their consideration, appoint the committee formerly nominated for the Irish business to meet upon the same and think upon the most honourable and expedient course to be taken by this kingdom relating thereto and to report again to the parliament. And for the time and place of meeting, it was recommended to [John Campbell, lord Loudoun], lord chancellor, to speak to [Alexander Leslie, earl of Leven], lord general, thereupon.
Order for returning [James Hamilton], marquis of Hamilton, [Archibald Campbell], earl of Argyll and [William Hamilton, earl of] Lanark read, voted and passed in parliament.
[Master Alexander Gibson of Durie], commissary-general, humbly represented the slowness of the meeting of the auditors appointed for his accounts, and earnestly desired the parliament to take some course for his dispatch, whereupon the estates desired [John Elphinstone, lord Balmerino], president, to cause warn and command all the auditors to meet under a penalty. For doing whereof, the clerk delivered to the president the list of the said auditors.
A ratification of the mortification of the bishopric and priory of St Andrews to the university thereof read in audience of his majesty and parliament, who appoint the estates to be advised thereupon.
Appoints the parliament to meet tomorrow at 9 o'clock.
