[Lord Balmerino continued as president of parliament]

The king being present.

His majesty declared that he, having nominated [John Elphinstone], lord Balmerino to be president, he is willing also that he be continued to the end of this parliament notwithstanding that there be a chancellor now elected, but with this declaration and provision: that after this parliament the same be not derogatory or prejudicial to the chancellor in any action, place or possession competent to him, either in presiding, calling of rolls, stating of questions, asking of votes or any otherwise whatsoever.
