Commission to [James Graham], earl of Montrose and [Patrick Maule], laird of Panmure of the justiciary of the waters of North Esk and South Esk of the fishings thereon

Our sovereign lord and estates of parliament, considering that forasmuch as by an act made in the seventh parliament of his highness's late dearest father, King James VI of worthy memory, chapter 3, regarding the punishment of slaughter of red fish, smolts and fry of all fish, his majesty and estates of parliament made and constituted certain persons mentioned therein within the bounds and waters therein his highness's justices in that part, in manner, form and to the effect contained therein, with ample power to them in manner mentioned in the said act, and because it is most fit and expedient that those who have special interest in the salmon fishings should be entrusted with the care and charge of the said commission, and that James, earl of Montrose, lord Graham and Mugdock etc. and Patrick Maule of Panmure, one of his sacred majesty's bedchamber, have special interest in the fishings of the waters of North Esk and South Esk and have been in possession and use to get commission of justiciary for putting the said acts to execution in so far as concerns the fishings of the said waters of North Esk and South Esk these diverse years bygone, therefore our sovereign lord and estates of parliament make, constitute and ordain the said James, earl of Montrose and Patrick Maule of Panmure, their heirs and successors in their fishings of the said waters of North Esk and South Esk his highness's justices in that part for the said waters of North Esk and South Esk, with power to them, their foresaids and deputes, for whom they shall be answerable, to hold justice courts and create all members thereof necessary to the effect contained in the said former act, and with all liberties and privileges therein mentioned and upon the provisions contained therein, which are here held as expressed.
