Our sovereign lord, with advice and consent of the estates of this present parliament, has ratified and approved and, by this legislation, ratifies and approves the letter of tack made and set by his majesty under his highness's privy seal of the date 2 September 1641, whereby his majesty, with consent of his highness's treasurers, comptrollers and collector of this kingdom, and of the new and old augmentations of the same, and with consent of his highness's depute in the said office and the other lords of exchequer, has set in tack and assedation to his majesty's beloved servant Robert Leslie, brother-german to Patrick [Leslie], lord Lindores, his heirs assignees and subtenants, one or more, all and whole the lands, rents, superiorities, profits, duties, casualties, castles, towers, fortalices, mansions, houses, titles†, fishings, leases, reversions, jurisdictions, privileges, immunities and all other duties and benefices whatsoever which pertained to the late bishopric of Orkney, or that hereafter shall be found to have belonged to him by whatsoever manner of way as bishop of that bishopric, all which are now fallen and become in his majesty's hands and at his highness's gift and disposition by suppressing the estates of bishops, and that for the whole space and years of two nineteen years after the said Robert's entry, which was of the crop and year of God 1641, and so forth yearly to endure during the said space for yearly payment to his majesty and his highness's successors of the sum of 8,000 merks Scots money of tack duty, beginning the first year's payment thereof at Whitsunday [29 May] 1642; together with a warrant superscribed by our said sovereign lord passed under his highness's signet and directed by his majesty to his highness's treasurer principal and treasurer depute and the other commissioners of the exchequer of Scotland, of the date the [...] day of [...], regarding the allowance to the said Robert Leslie of that yearly pension of £200 sterling payable to him out of the exchequer of England, and that out of the tack duty above-written of the said bishopric of Orkney, to be retained by the said Robert and his foresaids in their own hands during the years and space of the said tack, as the same tack and warrant of the date respectively above-mentioned at more length purports, in all and sundry the heads, articles, clauses, conditions and provisions of the said letter of tack and warrant respectively. Moreover, his majesty wills and grants and, for his highness and his successors, with advice and consent of the said estates of parliament, decrees and ordains that this present ratification is and shall be as valid and sufficient to the said Robert Leslie, his heirs, assignees and subtenants for holding, enjoying and possessing of the lands, rents, castles, towers, fortalices, duties, teinds, fishings and others above-written, during the space above-mentioned of the said tack, and also for retention by the said Robert and his foresaids of the said yearly pension of £200 sterling out of the tack duty above-expressed, by virtue of the warrant foresaid, as if the said tack and warrant were herein at length engrossed and inserted at length word by word, notwithstanding the same are not inserted herein, regarding which and all other faults and imperfections that have followed or may follow upon the said tack and warrant respectively, or that in any way may be objected against the same, our said sovereign lord, for his highness and his successors, with advice and consent above-written, has dispensed and by this ratification dispenses for now and ever.
