The which day, forasmuch as the king's majesty and estates of parliament, having taken to consideration the humble petition of General Patrick Ruthven exhibited and seriously recommended by the Lord General [Alexander] Leslie, earl of Leven, desiring that his majesty and estates of parliament would be graciously pleased to restore him against the decreet and sentence of forfeiture given and pronounced against him in that session of this present parliament held in June 1640, he being then governor of the Castle of Edinburgh for the time, as the petition containing the reasons whereupon he craves to be restored against the decreet of forfeiture and the same decreet to be rescinded more fully purports; his majesty and estates of parliament have, for the reasons, respects and considerations known to them, and especially in respect of the earnest suit of the said Lord General Leslie, restored and reinstated, and hereby restore and reinstate, the said General Patrick Ruthven and his heirs and successors against the foresaid decreet and sentence of forfeiture given and pronounced against him upon 11 June 1640, in that session foresaid of this present parliament then held at Edinburgh as said is, at the instance of Robert [Balfour], lord [Balfour of] Burleigh, for himself as president of the said parliament for the time and in name of the estates of the kingdom, together with the summons and process whereupon the foresaid decreet and sentence of forfeiture proceeded. And also his majesty and estates foresaid rescind and annul the foresaid decreet and sentence of forfeiture and process foresaid whereupon the same proceeded, and ordain the same decreet and process, with the whole minutes, warrants, records of parliament and probation whereupon the summons was raised and executed, and the decreet and sentence of forfeiture respectively given and pronounced, to be altogether deleted out of the records and books of parliament. Likewise his majesty and estates foresaid restore and reinstate the said General Patrick Ruthven to his honour, dignity of Lord Ettrick and his whole estate and means, good name and fame to be enjoyed, held and possessed by him, his heirs and successors in the same manner as if the foresaid decreet and sentence of forfeiture had never been pronounced against him.
