The king being present.
The which day his majesty declared that he having nominated John [Elphinstone], lord Balmerino to be president of this parliament, he is willing also that he be continued to the end of this parliament, notwithstanding there be a chancellor now elected, but with this declaration and provision: that after this parliament the same be not derogatory or prejudicial to the chancellor in any action, place or possession competent to him either in presiding, calling of rolls, stating of questions, asking of voices or in any other way whatsoever.
