Procedure: asking of instruments

The advocates for the estates produced the summons and precept executed against [James Graham], earl of Montrose to this day of compearance, and thereupon Master Thomas Nicolson, advocate, asked instruments.

Procedure: ordinances
Ordinance of parliament regarding the calling and compearance of [James Graham], earl of Montrose and continuation of his summons

The which day the estates of parliament, after voicing, ordain the Earl of Montrose to be brought down himself in person and to stand at the bar and in the place appointed for those who are cited to the parliament, likewise accordingly Master Roger Mowat, Alexander Pearson and Thomas Nicolson compearing for the pursuers, the Earl of Montrose personally present at the bar, the said estates of parliament continue this matter to 24 August instant, with continuation of days. Upon the which calling, continuation and defender's compearance Master Thomas Nicolson for the public asked instruments.

Thereafter the Earl of Montrose offered himself ready to answer and desired no continuation, and desired the extract of the depositions and papers whereupon his summons is founded and thereupon asked instruments.

Ordinance in favour of John MacCulloch of Merton

The which day the supplication given in to the parliament by John MacCulloch of Merton, desiring that [Patrick Hannay], commissioner of Wigtown may be discharged to proceed in any action against him during the sitting of the parliament in respect he is a commissioner thereto, being read in audience of the parliament and the desire thereof considered by the estates of parliament, they find the desire thereof reasonable and therefore discharge the said commissioner of all proceeding in any process against the supplicant during the sitting of the parliament, and in case anything be done since the meeting of the parliament the estates declare the same to be null in the self.

Procedure: election of a new president

[Robert Balfour, lord Balfour of Burleigh], lord president, desired the parliament to think upon the election of a new president against the next session, according to the act.
