  1. Sic. This should read 'The 11th day of this parliament'. Consequently, the numbering of all subsequent days of parliament is wrong, being one day out in each instance. For example, when the record indicates that it is the 11th day of the parliamentary session, it is in fact the 12th day, and so on. Back

Procedure: supplications against the Earl of Morton; the passing of the signatures continued

Regarding the supplication presented in name of [John Leslie], earl of Rothes craving a signature to be passed upon a comprising of [William Douglas], earl of Morton's lands before any other creditor, in respect his comprising is anterior, and also the supplication presented by Master William Scott of Clerkington and sundry others, the Earl of Morton's creditors, desiring that their signatures may be first completed in respect it was first produced in exchequer, as the said two supplications containing diverse other reasons at more length purport.

The estates of parliament, having taken these supplications and reasons thereof to consideration, they after voicing continue the passing of both the signatures to 17 August next in the same state they were before the production of any of them to the exchequer, at the which time the Earl of Morton is expected to be at home and at that day (or sooner in case the earl come home) the signature to be heard before the parliament or exchequer.

The estates of parliament nominate and appoint the committee underwritten for considering all bills and supplications exhibited or to be exhibited in parliament, namely: for the nobility, [John Erskine], earl of Mar and [John Lyon, earl of] Kinghorn, [Alexander Elphinstone], lord Elphinstone and [James Johnstone, lord] Johnstone; for the barons, the lairds [Sir William Forbes] of Craigievar, [Sir Gilbert Ramsay of] Balmain, [Sir John Moncreiffe of] Moncreiffe and [Sir Thomas Ruthven of] Freeland; for the burghs, [David Anderson], the commissioner of Cupar, [George Gardyne, commissioner for] Burntisland, [Master Robert Cunningham, commissioner for] Kinghorn and [David Spence, commissioner for] Rutherglen, with power to them to hear and prepare the said supplications, grant citations thereupon and to report in audience of the whole estates of parliament, and ordain the citations and the deliverance for them to be subscribed by each estate of that committee.
