Our sovereign lord, with advice of the three estates of this present parliament, ratifies, approves and confirms the charter granted by his majesty's late dearest father, King James VI, under his great seal, in favour of the late Robert Swinton of that Ilk and his male heirs and of tailzie specially designed therein, of all and whole the lands of Meikle and Little Swintons and kirklands thereof, together with the lands of Cranshaws and patronage of the kirk of the same, and union thereof in a barony, to be held of his majesty in feu ferm and heritage for payment of 20 merks sterling for the lands of Meikle Swinton, one merk for the lands of Little Swinton, and 45s for the kirklands thereof, and for the lands of Cranshaws [...], with the whole clauses contained in the said charter, of the date 26 June 16[...], together also with a decreet before the lords of [...], whereby the duty of the said 20 merk sterling is explained and declared to be only 20 merks usual money of Scotland, together also with all and sundry other charters, precepts, sasines, rights, evidents and securities whatsoever made and granted by whatsoever person or persons, in favour of Master Alexander Swinton, now of that Ilk, or any of his predecessors or authors of or concerning the said lands of Meikle and Little Swintons, kirklands thereof, the lands of Cranshaws, patronage of the kirk of the same and whole pertinents thereof, properties and superiorities of the same in any time bygone, willing and declaring the generality of this present act shall in no way prejudice the said Master Alexander and his heirs and successors, but that the same shall be as valid and sufficient to him and them as if the same were specially herein expressed and whole tenors thereof word for word engrossed in this present act. And ordains this present act and whole infeftments to be good, valid and sufficient to the said Master Alexander and his heirs as their own proper heritage in all time coming to possess the same.
