Our sovereign lord, with advice of the three estates of parliament, ratifies and approves the charter made and granted by his majesty under his highness's great seal to his beloved Sir Thomas Thomson of Duddingston, knight, his heirs and assignees whatsoever heritably, of all and sundry the lands and towns of Easter and Wester Duddingstons, with mills, mill lands, multures, sequels, coals, coal pits, wrack, wraith, wair, parts, pendicles, tenants, tenancies, service of free tenants thereof and all their pertinents whatsoever, all united and erected in a free tenancy called the tenancy of Duddingston, lying within the sheriffdom of Edinburgh; and also of all and sundry the teind sheaves of all and whole the lands of Easter and Wester Duddingstons, with their parts, pendicles, mill lands and pertinents, except the teind sheaves of the kirklands or vicar lands of Duddingston occupied by the widow of the late John Kerr, burgess of Edinburgh and her tenants, lying in the parish of Duddingston and within the sheriffdom foresaid, the said lands, mills and pertinents thereof erected as said is proceeding upon the resignation of the said Sir Thomas Thomson and the said teind sheaves proceeding upon the resignation of his highness's right trusty cousin and councillor, Robert [Ker], earl of Roxburghe, lord Ker of Cessford and Caverton etc., to be held of our said sovereign lord and his highness's successors, of the date 23 February 1633, together with the precept and instrument of sasine following thereupon in all and sundry heads, clauses, articles and conditions thereof after the forms and tenors of the same. And his majesty, with consent foresaid, wills and grants and, for his highness and his successors, decrees and declares that the said charter, precept and instrument of sasine are good and valid rights to the said Sir Thomas Thomson and his foresaids for possessing and enjoying of the lands, mill, teinds and others above-specified in all time coming.
