The estates of parliament, taking to their consideratioune ane supplicatioune given in be Mr Alexander Gardyne, minister at Forgue, shewing that after he had bought his manse at a deare raite fra Mr Williame Dowglas, now professor of divinitie in the old toune colledge of Aberdene, [he] had his bigging and manse all destroyed by fyre done be the rebellis, and since that ofter nor anes hes bene totallie plundered in laiter rebelliounes and insurrectiounes. Therefore desyreing that the act of the presbytrie of Turreff relateing to his manse might be ratified in parliament, as the supplicatioune beires. Whilk, togither with the foirsaid act of the presbytrie of Turreff, whairof the tennor followes: Att Turreff, the nynt day of December 1647 yeeres, the said day the moderatour, brethrene and memberis of the presbytrie, be vertew of ane reference of the provinciall assemblie holden at Banff in October lastbypast the 19, 20 and 21 dayes therof, requyreing the moderatour and brethrene of the presbytrie of Turreff to take notice of the manse of Forgue, totallie brunt and waisted be the enemie, belonging to Mr Alexander Gardyne, present minister at Forgue, bought be him frome his predicessor, Mr Williame Dowglas, professor of divinitie within the famous universitie of old Aberdene at ane deare rate, viz: the soume of sex hundreth pundis besyde ane mortified house which cost him nothing, wherin the said Mr Alexander presentlie dwellis; and inrespect the said Mr Alexander had builded againe the said mortified house and ane pairt of the residue of the manse disponed unto him, in better forme then it wes at his entrie, and wes to build and repaire the rest of the manse unbruiked as yit efter the said maner, and thairfore had supplicated the said provinciall [assemblie] to interpone their authoritie that seing the said manse wes to stand him double or more of that for which he cost it at the first (by and attoure the reedifying of the said mortified hous), that he might have compensatioune be his successor maid to him incaice he be transplanted or to his relict or executors according to that which he gave for the bigging at his entrie, by and attoure the charges wared be him in reedifieing the said mortified hous or according to the worth of the haill bigging. Conforme to the whilk provinciall ordinance the presbytrie, haveing recommended the visitatioune of the bigging to Mr Andrew Massie, minister at Auchterles, and Mr Alexander Scrogie, minister at Drumblet, who haveing visited the said manse and bigging and finding that he had builded the said mortified hous with some utheris on his owne chairges in a fare better forme then they were at the first, and that the said Mr Alexander wes about the building of the rest of the bigging in that same maner, thairfore the presbytrie, conforme to the power committed be the said provinciall assembly unto thame, ordaines that the intrant successor to the said Mr Alexander give him or his aires, or relict incaice of his decease, satisfactioune for the whole bigging upone the said manse according to the worth and value of thame at his successoris entrie as they sall be comprysed be the sight of men of judgment, conscience and understanding; and that his said successor sall be haldin to give his consent to the said act befoir his admissioune as is in itselff most equitable.
